Reporting to the Head of Manuscripts and Archives Processing in the Special Collections Processing Center at the Kislak Center, the project archivist will be responsible for ensuring the intellectual and physical quality control over the Arnold and Deanne Kaplan Collection of Early American Judaica. This position will consist of two separate, but related phases and responsibilities. During phase one, the Project Archivist will receive training in the complex metadata standards for processing the collection. As part of that training, the Kaplan Project Archivist will complete outstanding metadata quality control needs of items already digitized and available on Colenda, Penn’s system for long-term preservation and access to digital assets. Phase two, the duration of the project, will be to undertake a physical inventory of the Kaplan Collection, examining the collection, verifying each item’s presence on Colenda, creating metadata for items NOT on Colenda, and recording physical location. This is an eighteen month position.
