DREXEL HILL, PA — The Partnership for Academic Library Collaboration and Innovation (PALCI) welcomes Montclair State University to the consortium’s membership of 72 academic and research libraries.

Through membership, Montclair gains access to PALCI’s shared catalog containing more than 46 million items in library collections owned by partnering institutions in addition to substantial electronic content from top publishers. Thanks to PALCI’s well-known EZBorrow resource sharing platform, students, faculty, and staff can leverage this expedited interlibrary loan service to speedily discover, request, and borrow books and other physical library materials from 56 college and university member libraries.

“Gaining access to PALCI’s collective research collection was the best way to meet the needs of a growing R2 public research university,” shared Dean of Library Services Danianne Mizzy. In the coming weeks, Sprague Library’s staff will begin working with PALCI and the consortium’s service providers to plan the technical aspects of the library’s EZBorrow implementation, as well as the training and onboarding of library staff, with a launch date to be determined and announced later this year. Montclair also plans to participate in PALCI RapidILL, which delivers journal articles and book chapters to the requestor’s desktop, usually within a few hours.

Formerly known as the Pennsylvania Academic Library Consortium, Inc., PALCI has an expanded membership across the states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and West Virginia. Its members include small, private liberal arts colleges and very large public and private institutions working together to harness the power and scale of this large and diverse collaboration.

“We are eager to embrace all that PALCI membership offers — from deeply discounted consortial purchasing to professional development and networking opportunities — and to be a supporter and contributor to PALCI’s drive to innovate for the advancement of academic and research library services in our region,” stated Dean Mizzy.

It is widely accepted that all academic libraries must share and collaborate in order to effectively serve their users. By joining PALCI, these institutions gain access to the collections sharing opportunities that are often unattainable when going it alone.

“We often say that PALCI’s diversity of institutions is our greatest asset. PALCI is incredibly fortunate to have gained Montclair State University. Each new member brings its own unique strengths, and great colleagues who are eager to participate in collaborative programs and services,” shared Jill Morris, PALCI Executive Director.
