Dickinson College invites applications for the Director of Library Services. At a time when the College is identifying its next strategic plan, Waidner-Spahr Library, the interdisciplinary intellectual center on campus and home to a dynamic learning commons, is participating in their own decennial review. This conjunction provides an exceptional opportunity for a talented and adept leader to develop and implement a clear vision for the library, grounded in the College’s strategic priorities. We seek someone who is committed to a student-centered approach to leadership, who will bring new perspectives to existing priorities and challenges. The Director will be an effective communicator and will serve as the leading spokesperson and advocate for the library.
Responsible for supervising and leading a strong and talented library staff, the Director will manage library operations, personnel budgets, and collections. The Director reports to the Provost and is expected to proactively identify opportunities for beneficial collaboration across the College and beyond, including managing the collection, supporting staff, and promoting the user experience.
We envision the successful candidate will be a confident leader who is able to inspire change and is willing to try new things. The successful candidate must be a champion for diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels within the library and the institution. We seek someone who has a successful track record of building diverse and inclusive programming and services, has a knowledge of digital scholarship, and is a scholar who is professionally active at the national level.
