The Rutgers University Libraries seek an experienced, innovative, and service oriented archivist to fill the position of University Archivist in SC/UA at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. Reporting to the Associate Director Special Collections and University Archives, the University Archivist plans, organizes, and supervises the appraisal, collection management, arrangement, description, preservation, and research use of the historical collections in the University Archives of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. The University Archivist oversees and sets priorities regarding arrangement and description of collections, creates and implements archival policies and procedures, carries out administrative duties, supervises employees, and coordinates activities among relevant program areas within SC/UA, the Libraries, and Rutgers University. Provides expertise to campus offices and departments in identifying and preserving the permanently valuable records of the university in all formats for inclusion in the University Archives, working in conjunction with records management. Ensures that such collections become accessible for the purposes of research and use by various internal and external constituencies through effective cataloging, finding aids and research guides, exhibitions, and online resources. Engages in instruction and general reference. Provides in-depth research assistance and instructional support on the University’s history and operations as requested by the administrative officers of the University; works closely with University Records Management. Provides leadership for other outreach programs and activities; engages with alumni groups and assists in appropriate fundraising activities of the SC/UA and the Libraries as needed. This is a tenure track full-time faculty position with requirements for ongoing scholarship and research and features a strong commitment to excellence in service; demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively in a complex, changing environment; and continual professional development through participation and leadership in the work of relevant professional associations and service to the Libraries and the University.
